    C1 Original Jack finish

Question for those of you who have an original "unrestored'" jack. Can you see any sort of primer under the paint where the paint has been scuffed or scraped away? If so, is it a red oxide primer? I recently bought one in very nice shape but it had been painted red. I bead blasted it and found no signs of primer, just black paint and want to restore it properly.
    Thanks.

...to see any primer. The jack, like many other items, were assembled and then dip painted black. The factory felt no need to spend any frogskins on primer for something like a lowlife jack, lug wrench or jack handle.

Dennis, I would definitely agree with your assessment, but I seem to remember seeing one somewhere with red primer hiding under scuffed/scratched paint. Probably an older restoration where someone decided to primer it before painting.
