Hi, I was reading the rules for judged cars and it stated one could be disqualified for counterfeit items such as the engine. Does this mean that if I wanted my car judged I could be disqualified because I don`t have the original engine even through its date code and stampings are corect as best as I could do. My car didn`t have an engine when I bought it. I bought a 1965 Corvette original engine with a very close date code. Of course the block was decked and restamped with the correct numbers. [small block not big block]. I am sure a judge can tell that I had it restamped from what I have read on the forum. I wasn`t trying to fool anyone I just put everything as correct as I possibly could. I never intend to sell the car as I put a lot more time [4 years and still working on it]than I originally intended. If I even finish it I was thing of having it judged before I start driving it. I would appreciate an insight on this. Thanks, Mike McKay

Re: Conterfeit Judging
As long as you kept the car as the original horsepower level, you'll only lose points for the stamping pad details.
The best example of a counterfeit is to take a small block car and rebuild it as a BB car, or change a base motor car to a higher HP version.
Good luck with your project,

Mike
creating an engine of the same configuration such as hp level and carberation that the car had when it originally came off the prodiction line and was delevered to the customer is not conterfieting an engine.
for example, if the car was originally a 327/300hp motor and you found a replacement block with the proper casting number and date code and recreated that as a replacement 327/300 motor than NCRS considers that a RESTORATION motor and it's perfectly acceptable.
On the other hand, if the car was originally a 327/300 motor and you replaced it with a FI motor and stamped it as such or you dropped in a big- block motor and stamped it to try to pass it off as an original FI or BB motor which the car wasn't originally than that is considered conterfeiting.
Anything to make the car APPEAR as it was ORIGINALLY is fine, anything that makes the car different than it was originally is wrong as far as NCRS is concerned for judging purposes.- Top

Re: Conterfeit Judging
Thanks! I appreciate the responces. I never knew what the original engine was. I made it a 327/350 as that was what I would have ordered the car with. I traced the ownership back to 1984 where it deadended but it had a 307 2 barrel when that owner bought it. The original motor was long since gone. It will be driven and enjoyed in either case. Re: Conterfeit Judging
Mike-----
In many cases, it will be impossible to know what original engine a car was equipped with. Perhaps, not in your case, but in many cases. It depends what one "starts from". If it's a "basket case" or a near basket case, so many of the original components that might provide a clue as to the original engine may be long-gone. In that case, I guess the car is a "wild-card".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Conterfeit Judging
one word of caution to EVERYONE - before changing a stamp pad - CHECK WITH your states attorney! some states REQUIRE that the company doing the decking MUST stamp their name, etc. - if they do not then that is consiudered a FELONY!Rick Aleshire

Re: Counterfeit Judging
This has always been my pet pea in judging using the word Original and Condition ,now using the word Originality is more broad in the JM.
Under Original= any points awarded (if it's real original) should receive %100. No matter if it looks like Sh*t
Under Condition= that is where it should take a small or big hit.
Then the word Repro or replacement or serviceable part or what ever you wont to call it be added.
Score
Originality Serviceable Condition
%100 %100 %??
This type of scoring would reward a person that has or paid or found a REAL Original part on his or her Corvette.
All this would come under a Flight Award which most people go for.
I look at it this way with all the arguing over engine stamping , give the person having a REAL ORIGINAL part OR ENGINE under the scoring word (Original) a starting point of %100 points.
Then if detected if he or she has a repro. Or replacement part the same for the engine , under the scoring word (Serviceable) the same starting point of %100.
I know I'm dreaming and will never see this idea used because so many see it different, but that's my 2cent opinion.- Top
