    1972 Ignition coil

    I just purchased a 270 B-R ignition coil for my vehicle a 1972 coupe.

Description:Total height:5 7/8" Diameter:2 1/8" (across bottom) The top has a positive sign "+" on the left and a negative sign "-" on the right side of the crown. Below the center is "Delco-Remy". On the side of the coil just below the Delco-Remy about 1" down is "270" and just below that in CAPITAL letters "B-R". These letters/numbers are 1/4" in height. Is this the correct coil?

The paint needs to be restored and I want to be sure to have this correct also.

First, what color black is correct? Gloss?

Second, are the raised letters/number highlighted with "any" color, or kept the same finish?

Third, mounting the coil correctly? Which way should the letters/numbers be facing,or negative positive poles be facing to be correct?

    Thanks to all involved!

    Re: 1972 Ignition coil

This coil is correct for the 350 engine and was used up to at least 1974. I would test it on the car first before you spend any time restoring it. (don't ask why I say this!) I "cosmetically restored" one recently. I cleaned the top off then taped it off real well leaving only the exposed metal case. I sanded smooth any deep chips with 150 grit then wet sand smooth with something like 400, acetoned it off, and sprayed it with gloss black which is correct. The raised numbers are gloss black like the rest of the metal and not highlighted. The orientation of the coil on my car is positive on the drivers side with the lead for the external capicitor to positive. I am not sure this orientation makes alot of difference but since you have the corect coil I would at least try to angle it so anyone that is seriously judging the car could see this little jewel. As an aside this coil is now recently being reproduced however instead of 270 over B-R or BR their is a 270 over 12V. Also the case is slightly, probably 1/8 of an inch, larger in diameter than your original.
