    C2 tunnel insulator

When I disassembled my 63 there was no tunnel insulator and no evidence that one had ever been installed. I want to install one during reassembly. The AIM (Section 1, Sheet 31A) shows the installation, but I am not clear about it. It shows 8 holes to be drilled, but only shows retainers at the front; what is the purpose of the rear holes? Item 5 is cement; I assume that it is applied on the sides as indicated by the cross-hatched area in the AIM drawing. Is a special glue required for temperature, or is contact cement sufficient to the purpose? Any tips or comments about this installation would be greatly appreciated.

early 63's didn't have the insulator.as i recall, there are 4 insulator metal clips with two holes and rivets per clip. once clips installed, install the insulator then bend the pair of points on each clip to retain the insulator. mike

      Steve,

As Mike mentioned, the cars produced for the first few months of the 63 MY did not have the insulation or the retaining clips.

The drawing for the shield only shows two clips as an example of installation but four were used.

Thanks. My car is early, so that makes sense. Am I right in a ssuming that glue is applied to the sides?

          Steve,

Adhesive was used in addition to the four retainers. Not sure how much of the area was covered though. I suppose a few stripes of adhesive front to rear would work.
