    Two tank sticers?

I decided to peel back the rubber grommet around the filler neck of my '67 roadster to see if there's a tank sticker visible. The tank sticker has never been a big issue on this car since it has the original window sticker and warranty plate. To my surprise, I could clearly see two pieces of paper stacked on top of each other, these were not side by side, but on top of each other. I know that tank has never been dropped on this car, it has 18,000 miles and eight options.
What's interesting is that a friend had a '67 small block roadster, #21521, that was five cars before mine. His car had the tank sticker from a green 435 coupe on it in place of his tank sticker, obviously the wrong paperwork for his roadster. The job number on his tank sticker was 521. My ID number is 21526 and we know something wrong was going on with the tank stickers in this ID number range. Anyone have any ideas on if mine may have had the incorrect tank sticker at first and they may have glued the correct one over it? I'm curious to pull the tank, but I want to have the car at Bow Tie judging and I'm hesitant to start pulling the car apart.

    Tim,

Sounds and looks like you might have the good fortune to have two different Corvette Order Copy documents on your car. Wait till after Bow Tie judging at the Nationals and pull down tank to see what's there. You might just be able to help a fellow Corvette owner with documentation for another car. Pretty interesting information about possible foul ups at the St Louis factory assembly with these documents for 1967 model year.

My car was built 157 cars after yours. Only one tank sticker on my car. Do you know the body job number of you car?

I have a 1970 AAR Barracuda, and it had two different "build sheets". It was typical for the Mopars to have two build sheets, but it is also common for them to be mixed up. I was able to return the "wrong" one in my car to the owner with that car. It was also common for the build sheets of Challengers to wind up in Barracudas and vice versa since they were on the same line and shared the same seats. The build sheets were commonly placed in the seats and that's where the mix up occured in those cars.

So with your car in 1967, when GM first starting using build sheets, who knows, anything is possible. It will be interesting to see what you have when you drop the tank!

        Good Luck,

        Steve

Don't know the body job number right now, it should be visible. It will be in Dallas for the retreat this weekend, so maybe one of those long thin surgical lights can be shoved in there to read some information off the stacked sheets.

Tim ---- Be ultra carefull trying to read a tank sticker through the gas filler hole. Damage could VERY EASILY occur. There have been, if memory serves, some cars with lots of options that have 2 pages in a single build sheet. Is your Corvette highly optioned? Be patient, wait until you drop the tank and then use extreme caution if you plan to remove it. See the TDB archives for special treatment and safe-keeping of historic documents.
Good luck with your '67, Kent #6201

We may never know the "real" reason the plant glued the Corvette Order Copy to the top of the tank, but the only one I can think of was to schedule the correct tank assembly (coupe vs. convertible - different filler necks) from the gas tank subassembly (installation of the sending unit, filler neck, and submerged leak test tank) to the Chassis Line where it was installed so a coupe chassis didn't get a convertible tank or vice versa - bad thing to find out at Body Drop

My guys recently pulled the body on a 350 convertible 67. When I went over to look at the tank sticker I observed another under the one on top. It was for a black 390 convertible! Image attached.

                  Tim,

I don't think the Assembly Line Job Number on your friends 67 VIN: 21521 could have been 521. The information I have been collecting on 67 Tank Stickers would seem to indicate that the 67 Assembly Line Job Numbers stopped at 500 and started over again from 1.....could the 5 digit be something else? I'm looking forward to seeing the car in Dallas.

                    Hi Tim
Are you sure there are two FULL sheets.
My convert, about 900 cars later than yours had the tank sheet folded over lengthwise. With that protection, it looked new.
Looks like somneone may have pulled the sheet just before the lunch bell rang, folded it up, stuck it in his/her pocket and slapped it on after lunch.

                      Re: Two tank sticers?

Kent, not lots of options, eight total so I figure that they would all fit on one page. I was in Fort Worth over the weekend and saw the tank sticker on a low mile coupe with 17 options and it was all on one page. This kind of sparked my interest to look for my tank sticker. Rick, you're correct. I should have known that job numbers only went to 500. I'll have to get a copy of the tank sticker to see the job number.
Interesting photo of two stacked on each other. It appears that that may be what I have here.
                      Thank you.

Michael, appears to be two. The black lines and writing are visable on the second one, I can lift the top one a bit. It appears very clean as I would expect.
