    Core support differences

Seeing as I don't have a 69 or later core support to set next to my 68 support, just what are the major differences?

Is it primarily the mounting brackets that the radiator sets on, or is it the support to frame mounting brackets?

Is the shape of the support different on a 69?

I'm getting tired seeing a million 69 supports for sale and the practically zero for my ahh "special" 68.

I guess it's off to Carlisle..... again

    Re: Core support differences

    Chuck------

The 1968 radiator core supports were a one-year-only design. They are, basically, a "cross" between the 1967 supports and the 1969+ supports. The primary difference is the way the support is monted to the body. The 1968 support uses the welded-on "legs" to mount to the frame horns. The 1969+ supports are attached at the bottom to the front removable crossmember. Both the 68 and 69+ supports also attach at the sides to the hood hinge pillar supports (the piece that the hood hinges attach to at the top).

I believe that the perimeter configuration of the 68 and 69+ supports is the same. However, I don't think that it's practical to try to convert one to the other.

Re: Ok Joe that answers it

My support is junk and it sounds like attempting to meld a donor with mine would be more trouble than it's worth.

      Thanks for the education Joe,

      Chuck

Keep your eyes open and I'll do the same. I found a nice one with no rust on E-bay last year. Nobody bid on it! I paid the initial bid of 25.00 plus shipping. You have a sb or BB car?

          Re: Small Block Steve

          I've been doing the same.

Even if I could find a solid donor I'd be happy as I could drill out and spot the components back together.

Seems that even twisted up parts donors are far and few between.

Oh well, the search go's on I guess.

          Regards,

          Chuck
