C3 81 rear light ?

Hello all,
I was installing a new rear bumper cover on an 81 today and noticed a small light housing mounted to the aluminum extruded main part of the bumper. I turned and pulled the connector out of its housing and there is no bulb, but it looks like it should have the small "push in " bulbs in it. What is this for? Thanks in advance, MikeD

If you are talking about one roughly 2 inches long near the spare tire carrier, it is part of the convenience group package that gave you a light to see the spare if you needed to change it. It comes on when you open the car door.

By the late '70s, they had a lot of neat features that we associate with cars today, and forget that Corvette was a leader at that back then.
