    '57 283HP FI Engine Parts

Does anyone know of a source for the pistons and camshaft for the 283HP FI engine? I'm not having any luck with either of these.

    Thanks in advance.

    Ashley -

The "097" cam is available from Federal-Mogul/Speed-Pro as their #CS113R.

      Ashley------

You're in luck on pistons, too. Your original pistons were a conventional cast piston with domed head. You can obtain a hypereutectic cast piston, which is considerably stronger than the original piston and yet preserves all the other advantages of a cast piston, from Keith Black-Silvolite. Their part number for the piston you need is KB-166. With your 60 cc heads, these pistons will produce a compression ratio of about 10.25:1, which is very close to your original ratio.

These pistons are only available in +.030", +.040", +.060". However, you will very likely require one of these oversizes, so that should not be a problem.

Most automtive parts retailers or automotive machine shops should be able to order these pistons for you.

Thanks Joe! I will need to be at .040", so I should be in good shape. I'll put a call in to my parts store and see if they can find this for me.

Thanks for your help John. I've just called my parts guy to see if he can get this for me.
