    Comp Cams roller rockers

Recently, there was a topic here about the use of roller rockers in conjunction
with stock valce covers on 427 engines. I tried to go back in the archives,
but I can't seem to find the information.

I know that Joe Lucia was involved in this topic and even offered up a CC
part number. If you are out there Joe, what was the CC part number for the
roller rocker arms ou tested for clearance?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve-----

The rockers I used were Comp Cams #1320-16. These rocker arms fit under stock Mark IV valve covers WITHOUT drippers with no problem, at all. Plenty of clearance regardless of position of the rocker arm. I also tried them with a set of valve covers with drippers. With these, there was some interference. However, I expect that a set of thick valve cover gaskets (like Fel-Pro 5/16" thick) would solve it. I did not spend a lot of time with this, though. I would not use dripper style covers with roller rockers, so, for me, it's a moot point.

      Joe,

Why no drippers with roller rockers? Isn't more oil a better thing?

        Steve-----

No, it's not in this case. Roller rockers don't require the flow of oil that stock rockers do. The ball fulcrum pivot of stock rockers generates a lot of heat for the oil to cool and also otherwise requires a lot of lubrication. That's why the drippers are there. In any event, there is still just as much oil delivered to the rockers since the drippers don't affect the VOLUME of oil in any way-----they just DIRECT more of it to the rocker arm fulcrums. In the process of doing this, they also direct more oil to the area in which it can "overwhelm" the valve seals. This can create higher oil consumption.
