    Installing generator pulley

I want to install the correct 4" pulley on my generator. I see in the assembly manual for 1962 that the generator is removed and placed on a stand with a back up plate to prevent damage to the bearings when installing the pulley. Is this absolutely necessary or can the pulley be unbolted and the new one installed on the car? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Installing generator pulley

Rob, I don't think you will be able to take the pulley off with the generator on the car. It will need to be disassembled, the armature put into a vise and then the nut can be taken off. The pulley will slide off easily after that, it is not a press fit, they are keyed. Hope this helps.
