    67 Steering column Plastic cover

What do folks do if anything to spruce up the interior steering column plastic cover up near the hub. Do you paint it with something like SEM 39143 black trim paint or just try to polish the black plastic the best you can?

Looking for a solution here, too.

The problem is the plastic collar gets sun damaged and haven't found anything that can reproduce that plastic finish and not look like a coating. Anyone know if there's a repro out there.

I buffed one of these out with mediocre results. It made the color lighten up-- not sure if it was due to the heat from the buffer, but seemed like it wasn't a uniform black color all the way through. I believe that these are supposed to be a bit more shiny than the rest of the interior, so maybe a higher gloss paint or clear coat could be used. They do make repro's for about $60 but not sure how accurate they are.

Mike, how did you prep it?

Mike, did you prep by wet sanding with 400 or 600 prior to spraying the SEM?

Re: Mike, how did you prep it?

Mike, thanks for the help. I cleaned it with prepsol, sanded with 400, three dry coats, wet sanded with 600 and applied a nice wet coat. It looks awesome!
When compared to the backside of the unpainted portion, I'm hard pressed to tell the difference.
