    427 engine cable restraints

Does anyone know the part number for the cable restraints that were added to the breaking of the 427 motor mounts for 1967 / 1969 Corvettes and are they still available from GM, as I need a pair. Thanks Dick

    Richard,

The part numbers you need may be a bit difficult to find as they were not listed in the regular GM parts book. The kits, called "Engine Lift Stop", were a dealer installed campaign/recall item and not regular production. If I remember correctly, there were separate sheets that listed the various part numbers and applications for most of the Chevrolet car lines so there were a LOT of different kits. The 67 and 69 printing of the parts book lists no such kit that I can find. Maybe Joe Lucia happens to have some paperwork/numbers on this.

I would just replace the original mounts with the later issue interlocking style if you're concerned with breakage.

        Jack-----

This is not the correct kit for a Corvette. I don't even think that it can be made to work.

            Dick------

The kit for your application was either GM #325827 or 325875. However, these were discontinued from SERVICE years ago. As Michael mentioned, they were primarily available to dealers for retrofit. They do come up for auction on eBay from time-to-time, most likely from folks who have bought out obsolete inventories from GM dealers or dealers going out of business. No doubt these kits "languished" on dealers' shelves after the locking mounts became available.

These kits were a "stop-gap" measure to deal with the problem of broken engine mounts and their consequences. The real solution was the locking-style mounts introduced for the 1970 model year and retrofittable to all 1963-69 Corvettes. After 1969, these were the ONLY mounts available from GM in SERVICE for all 1963-69 models.

At this point, the installation of one of these kits would be unwise. Such a kit installed on any car would not be considered correct as far as NCRS/NCCB judging goes. While it would be functional, it would be no more functional that just installing the locking style mounts. I don't know which is "more incorrect----the kit installed on a car or the locking style mounts installed on a car that didn't originally have them. Personally, I think that the locking mounts would be a lot more inconspicuous than the kits.

I HIGHLY recommend the installation of the locking mounts for ALL 1963-69 Corvettes. They are still available from GM under GM #6258154 and are also available from aftermarket sources.

I am sometimes amazed at the "stuff" I have; don't know where I got this, but I have a 325785 in the box with two instruction sheets (one for the left side installation and one for the right hand side), complete never used. G.
