    '57-'74 Dist. Cap abc's

Is embossed-text on a distributor cap now available for purchase from Zip Products correct? There is a distinct difference from what's described in the 3rd Edition of the 1970-1972 Judging Manual.

    Zip's Web Site Product Description:
    "Correct reproduction 1x4 distribution cap."

    Judging Manual Page 61:
...1970-1972's that we have examined...read "Delco Remy Pat. Pend. R" on the top of the cap in a circular pattern between the center tower and the outer ring of towers...

Holding the GM Restoration Parts item in my hand, I can tell you the actual embossed-text text on the cap
    1) DOES NOT ABBREVIATE "Patent Pending";
    2) Spells Delco Remy, "Delco-Remy"
    3) Has no "R".

All the embossed text IS in a circular fashion around the ring of towers.

This doesn't seem correct to me, and it's $59.95! Seems to me for that money, it really ought to be dead-on don't ya think?. Thanks.

    Adam -

They have the usage listed incorrectly - the "no R" cap is correct for some midyears (including 67's), not familiar with other applications.

      John and Adam-----

The "no R" cap was used for most pre-1969 Chevrolet V-8 applications. It's known as the Delco D-308 and also known as GM #1932018.

The "R" cap was used from 1969 to 1974 for most Chevrolet. It's known as Delco D-308R and also known as GM #1971244.

        Re: '57-'74 Dist. Cap abc's

Adam - Looking at the top of the type of cap expected for 70-72 and putting the - in Delco-Remy at 12 o'clock, the Delco-Remy is located between 10 and 2 with the D at 10 and the y at 2, the R is at 3, and the PATENT PENDING is located between 4 and 8 with the G at 4 and the P in PATENT at 8. Oriented as described all words and letters are displayed as one normally reads, i.e. no words or letters are upside down.

Best information is that caps without the R were used up thru 1967 and probably into 1968 production and while they will work on later distributors, they are not what one would expect for 1970 - 1972 production. Pete

Let us know if they have the "R" cap, and how "correct" it looks.

Zip claims to not have the correct part (no "R") for my car.
              Refund.
