I have a 65 327/350 the carb bowls are warped. The new ones I have now have numbers stamped onto the bowls, the old ones are smooth no numbers. Do you think I will loose points for something like that?

Re: carb bowls judging points?
Assuming the old one is the original one...you'll lose condition due to the warpish and depending on the extent...either minor, major or something in between. In contrast with a new bowl and numbers not typical of factory original...you'll lose originality and perhaps condition points.Tom Russo

Re: carb bowls judging points?
Jim, how badly are they warped? I've yet to see float bowls that were so warped they couldn't seal against the main housing and metering blocks. Are they clean all around their flange? I mean really clean!!! Is the mating surface on either end of the main housing clean of all material? If you have super clean mating surfaces on both ends and use either the stock paper gaskets or the blue Buna N types, and torque the bowl screws in a diagonal criss-cross pattern to the recommended spec, they shouldn't leak. I always use the plastic Mr. Gasket float bowl washers as they are troublefree and never adhere to the float bowls. I have, on one occasion, doubled-up the gaskets on a rear float bowl, but didn't torque the screws due to the added thickness. It worked!!- Top
