    C2/3 Flywheels

    All,

What is the difference between the #3991469 & the #3729004 flywheels. They are both 14" with 168 teeth. Are they interchangable? What was the original application for the #3729004.

    Thanks,

    Rory

    Rory -

The casting #3729004 was the '56-'62 flywheel; dunno about the other one.

      John and Rory-----

The 3991469 is the current SERVICE flywheel for all 1966-81 Corvette applications with 14" flywheel (except 1969 with MA-6 and 1971 with LS-6). It can also be used as a SERVICE replacement for early 1955 with 265 cid.

The GM CASTING #3729004 is, as John mentioned, applicable to 1956-62 as well as later 1955 and it is a 14" flywheel. However, the 2 flywheels are NOT interchangeable. I believe that the 3729004 is not drilled for the 11" clutch used with the 3991469 AND I also believe that the thickness of the 2 flywheels differ with the 3729004 being thicker.
