    67 Voltage Regulator

Did all 67's use double contact voltage regulator #1119515 ? TIJG only refers to this number but Chev Chassis Service Manual shows an adjustable transistor model also used on Corvette. Am I correct that double contact model is non adjustable? My ammeter is reading high 30's, tried 2 different batteries and assume if voltage regulator non adjustable it needs to be replaced. Thanks

    Re: 67 Voltage Regulator

have seen the adjustable regulator on 64 vettes but not 67's. take your alternator and 515 regulator to local autop electric shop and have them test it. if you need a new regulator stick with a 515. john pirkle is a good source.he ads in driveline. mike

The solid state, transistorized voltage regulator with a limited external adjustment was used on some 1965 Corvettes with K-66 and C-60 and may also have been used on later 1964s and early 1966 Corvettes similarly equipped.

The use of this regulator was not carried into 1967, as far as I know. I don't know why---perhaps cost was a factor. This unit, GM #1116378, was at the leading edge of solid state voltage regulators which went into "full bloom" with the introduction of the SI-series, internal voltage regulator alternators in 1969. The 1116378 and other, similar voltage regulators produced by Delco-Remy are quite reliable. I have even seen them used in some aircraft applications where reliability is quite a bit more important than on a Corvette.

I believe that these solid state regulators can be retrofitted to Corvettes originally equipped with the GM #1119515 electro-mechanical regulators. I don't know what's involved in the conversion, though. However, I think that it's a relatively simple installation.

Check your CHEVROLET SERVICE MANUAL. There is a procedure in there for adjusting the voltage level of the regulator which effects the "current" required to maintain that voltage level.
