    C1 Fresh air hose

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what the actual fresh air hose for the C1's look like in relation to the space between the wire, etc. I see that there is a new hose that someone is making that is advertised as how the originals were, yet I have seen for instance the '57 Sebring/Nassau car first hand and it has a very old faded hose and it doesn't resemble the current "new" one at all. It looks more like the one that has been avaialble for the last several years. What is the position on the correct fresh air hose by the Team leaders out there? Thanks.

Below is a picture of the heater air duct hose removed from the 57 Nassau/Daytona car. It appears to be vintage correct however..please remember this car was born as a heater delete and the heater was added after it was retired from racing. I suspect the hose is correct but..production cars mainly had black colored heater hose duct.

Also pictured below under the old hose is a newer heater hose I bought from Corvette Central ( I think ). It looks very close to the old one..but appears to be only 4 1/8" in diameter as compared to the vintage hose at 4 1/4"

      You might also call:

CARS Buick Parts..they sell heater hose cut to length in diameter sizes 1 1/2" to 5 3/8"

      www.buick-parts.com
      908-369-3666

The heater hose I bought from Corvette Central seemed to be a little short and was difficult to get in place...which resulted in breaking it.

      Hope this helps.

      Joe

          Geoff--
I don't know about 57's, but I've never seen anything like that one from the barn find on a 61 or 62. I've only seen the internal wire.
That 57 barn find has, as you know the wrong upper radiator hose, etc. I wouldn't want to change anything to accomodate that hose unless we have a number of indisputable examples.
Nice car--great find for that individual! Wish he wouldn't restore it!

            Mike / Geoffrey / Garry

My old survivor 57 also had a flex hose upper radiator hose..and I am probably the one that put it on..looked just like the picture of the casade green barn find.

What it reminds me..is that during the 70's and 80's..there were very few repro parts..and if your local Chevrolet parts department didn't have a replacement part in stock..for the old Corvette..then you did whatever you could.

I remember the air duct hoses like the one on the 57 barn find..and they always reminded me of clothes dryer hoses...because they were so droopy! Chances are it is a replacement..using whatever was available. That is not a criticism.

I have not seen the cascade green 57 barn find..but in your picture it looks like the air duct hose bracket is either too low or missing. Probably missing..because if you ever tried to change the passenger side plugs..after removing the air duct..you would scratch your arm on that damn bracket!

Mike...I agree..I would prefer the car be left as is..

              Geoffrey, Joe and Mike,
Thanks for your thoughts and insights on this. Geoff, the barn find pictures look VERY similar to the item on ebay. Im sorry but I don't know how to provide a link to this email or I would do it so that you can see what I am talking about. I do however have the photos that I mentioned to you earlier (on you email) that once I get home I could send to you and maybe you can post them for me. I can't say for sure that this new one has both the inner and outer wire, but it certainly is closer than the ones currently available. The real question is, which one is correct? Thanks Joe for the pics to show one that at least was put in shortly after retiring from racing. When do you figure that would have been?

                  Re: C1 Fresh air hose

Hello: Let me explain everything I can about the Fresh Air Hose thats on the internet.I had the same problem as everyone else trying to find a good substitute for the original hose. So after doing a lot of research, I was able to get this hose specially made from an original piece of FA hose. This hose is as correct as possibly can be considering it is a reproduction.

This hose is 4" ID same as original and is made of black canvas material and is wire coiled on the inside. Many pieces of this hose are on the street all with positive responses.

                    Jerry,
Thanks for filling in the gaps on this product that you had made. As I have mentioned perviously I have seen these on some of the cars that I have judged and they do look well made, but I can't confirm the accuracy. This is why I started the thread. I would like to ask if you have more than one of these or if you have plans to have more made, but I don't want to violate any rules of the board. I am sure that if anyone is interested in speaking with you they can contact you off line correct? Thanks Jerry.
