    C2 heater core

Is there a difference in heater cores used for AC and non AC cars?. I saw in the archieves that someone had bought an Autozone core part number 398212 for their non ac car and it looked just like the one that they removed. I also went to buy one for my non ac car and they said that that part number was for an ac car. Unfortunitly they didn't have one that I could look at. So...does the ac core really look just like an original non ac core, and again are there any differences between the two. Thanks for the help.

Yes, there is a difference with respect to heater cores for both C2 C-60 and non-C-60 as well as C-3 C-60 and non-C-60 (C1 never had C-60 and C-4, C-5, C-6 ALL have C-60).

The C-2 with C-60 heater core was discontinued by GM eons ago. It's available in the aftermarket/"reproduction", though. All the others are available from GM or the aftermarket. Nowadays, the GM/Delco piece is likley the same as aftermarket.

I believe that the tubes on the AC heater cores are longer and differently configured than those on the non-C-60.

Thanks for the quick response Joe. I was finally able to get a picture of each core. It appears that the AC one has straight tubes while the non ac has the bent ones. I can't tell about the length from the picture. Looks like I need to ignore the number from the previous post and get the non ac version. THanks.

The core you want for a non-AC C2 was once GM #3008574 and is now known as GM #52484057 or Delco #15-60119. If your parts source cross references from any of those numbers you should get the correct piece.

Bob I used an Autozone core that was exactly like the original both size and shape . The first time I ordered it from autozone the core was too short then I ordered number # 8207 core and this was the right one at a cost of 39.00. I know the gang pretty goood a the zone and they know I will not except any thing that is not correct............Kirby

Thanks for the part number. That is what I just ordered from the Zone. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Sounds like it is just what I need. Thanks again.

Have it pressure-tested before you install it - you don't want to do that job twice

                  Hello John,

I hated to do it the first time, let alone a second time. Thanks for the advice. I agree, it's well worth a few extra bucks vs the time and effort, not to mention the ruined carpet, if I don't test it.
