C2 Paint Color - Interior Quarter Trim Panel

The JG for a 65 states that they are "color matched to the interior". My interior is black, so would I use the Krylon semi flat black and be correct? Same question for the covertible top frame, but the gloss on the origianl seems to have more gloss than the krylon semi-flat.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark,

I used the Krylon semi-flat for the quarter trim panel and Mar-Hyde semi-gloss black for the top frame. The latter has more gloss than the Krylon, but isn't too shiny.

I'm pretty sure the Krylon, properly applied will meet judging standards for the quarter panel (and dash, etc--others report having used it), but I can't speak to the Mar-Hyde use on the top frame.

    Good luck!

As always, I would recommend a test shot of the Krylon to be sure it matches the black interior.
Some of the "Krylon Blacks" are not the true crisp black of the original interiors, they appear to be like a chocolate color.
Sorry, first I have heard of Mar-Hyde.

What is the Mar-Hyde product and through where is it available? I've seen it on other posts, but I'm not familiar with it. Is this a rattle-ball product or something that needs to be mixed and professionally sprayed?

        Thanks,
        Mark

          Mark,

Mar-Hyde products are sold through auto-body supply houses and some auto parts chains. I don't know the specific product number, but the black I used (in spray cans) was called a "guide coat"; meaning it was originally intended to be sprayed on a repaired body section and then sanded off to show low or high spots that needed further repair. Notwithstanding this intended use, I did my frame in it some 18 1/2 years ago (on a driver) and it still looks great.

Mar-Hyde is a division of the makers of Bondo, and I think they have a web-site. One of their most popular products is a vinyl colour spray for dyeing seats, tops etc.

          Good luck!
