1961 borg warner transmission cast or aluminum

Help, I am in the middle of doing a body off restoration on my 61 vette. When I bought the car it had a Muncie transmission in it. I'm trying to find the correct borg warner T10. Here's my problem...my car was built around Nov. 27th or 28th 1960. The judging manual states that all T10's were aluminum main cases after vin. # 2400. Through all my research on T10's its says aluminum main cases were not cast until the end of Nov. 1960 and not put in cars until early Dec of 1960. My vin is roughly 600 to 700 cars after vin. 2400. With all the research I've done it looks like my car should have come with a cast iron main case. Can anybody tell me for sure what kind of main case was used in a car built the end of Nov. 1960? Thanks for any help on this. I've run out of places to check. Larry #20778

Why not contact Dave Heitzman at vettes6162@msn.com? He is the National Judging Team leader, surely he would be able to tell you.
      Just my 2 cents

Larry, just going by the doc. I have.

        1961.

        Cast Iron - Early
        Aluminum - Late
Main Case - T-10-1B until 11/18/60 T-10-1C after 11/18/60. What this says is in November the switch from Cast to Aluminum was made.

        Extension - T-10-7B
Side Cover - T-10-148B (dates start in 1/61).

If this is correct, depending on what was pulled from inventory, I think you have your choice.

        Harry

agree with Harry in that you probably have your choice. Cast iron less likely to egg-shape the cluster shaft case holes. mike

Thanks, Mike and Harry for your response. In Harry's note he states everything I have been able to find out. Also I have been looking for aluminum main cases and the earliest date I could find was the first week of December 1960. Thanks again for the help!!! Larry # 20778
