    More....engine assy stamp ????

Ok...seems the can-o-worms has been opened and everybody has an opinion on typical and not-so-typical factory procedures. The question is what was the assembly stamping procedures on 1965-1966 C2 SB.

    1. Did Flint ever gang the first 6 characters FMMDDH and then hand stamp the last.....EFGHIJKLMNOPQRUVW occassionally. Or were all 7 characters ALWAYS ganged and stamped with one whack! How many of us have seen floating seventh or even sixth and seventh engine codes?

    2) How did St Louis modifiy the assy stamp "in a pinch"....see pic below on what is believed to be a St. Louie quick fix... Note the engine code HL appears to have been individually stamped....Anybody out there who can say first hand or with any degree of certainty?

Seems the rational call must be made on the basis of the body of evidence (documentation, casting numbers and dates, etc) rather that just the appearance of the pad in relation to what is typical....

    We are an anal bunch....:)

    Thanks!

What about the horizontal lines that appear to be from a grinder since their is a pattern?

        Clearly

The pic shows a grind and restamp. Factory oops...and fix. Now, appears the first 5-6 characters were gang stamped with the last of sixth and seventh (HL) individually stamped and unaligned with the previous characters. Can anybody say what the factory did or didnt do when assembly plant mixups/changes happened?

Broach marks and natural patina all there. Obviously not where the grind and restamp occurred. Typical factory line fix for option change????????
