I have just purchased a '77, all original (including the factory paint job) with 29,000 miles. There is some wear on the driver's seat, it looks as if the dye has worn off. Can this be repaired and should I do it? The paint looks pretty good except for the area over the tire on the passenger's side. It has many chips. Should I touch-up, repaint or leave it alone? The black has worn off some areas of the bumper guards, can I repaint those? It is an early '77 so it still has the alarm on the front fender. The alarm is not working properly, when it is engaged it doesn't stop sounding off until it is disengaged. Nothing has to be touched, just insert the key, twist and boom it alarms. Also I would love to have the windows tinted, is this a big no-no? I don't want to do anything that would mess up the originality but do want it to look as good as i know it can. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

From one Ward to another........
The VERY first thing you need to do is decide on your goals with this car. If you want to go the NCRS judging route, you first want to have the car judged AS-IS! Don't attempt to fix/restore/modify/upgrade anything just yet as you may inadvertantly remove some original characteristic of your car, and later regret it. If you decide that you want a nice driver that you want to work on yourself, you again have to decide whether you want it to be 'factory original' or modified.
Depending on how handy you are, and how much time and resources you have, you can probably do 90% of the work yourself.
As to modifying the car, you are the only one who can decide what's right for you. The goals of modifying it sort of contradict keeping the originality.
Come to think of it, irrespective of your goals with the car, why not have it judged anyway? You will learn a tremendous amount, and come into face to face contact with many people that can give you advice on restoring it.
