Would a 1966 J-56 brake optioned car have the Kelsey-Hayes adjustable proportioning valve?? and would the twin plastic cap power master have two bleed screws and a "PG" stamp?? finally was the J-56 option available on a `66 390hp car??
Yes, a 1966 Corvette with J-56 would have had the Kelsey-Hayes proprotioning valve. There were no bleeders as Geoffrey mentioned on the master cylinder. There was no "PG" (or any other broadcast code) stamped on the master cylinder. For 1966, J-56 was available only with the L-72 engine.
-------While certainly not conclusive, I had a 390hp air-conditioned coupe years ago that appeared to have been ordered with J56. The calipers were missing but all the other pieces ,big and small, were on the car and appeared to have never been fussed with. The car had no paperwork and efforts to track it back were unsuccessful........Bill S
In that case, there is a conflict between the information provided in the 1966 Dealer Order Guide (copy attached) and what was on the Corvette order form. Of course, these things could change during the year. But, this copy of the Order Guide is dated just about the same as the date on the order (of course, the form could have been older than that, but not by too much).
From what I can see of the form revision date on the order form (top left corner) it appears that the date is 8/65. So, it may be that between then and the Novemeber, 1965 date of the Order Guide, a change was made regarding the pre-requisite for the J-56 brake system. It might be that the order form was also revised in November.
