Rob,
I believe the R89 W was the optional battery but seeing as we don't have to prove factory options the R89 W is acceptable for judging purposes on any 72 Corvette. Be ready for the reproduction battery to last between 2 and 4 years. They are expensive but also yield a lot of judging points. Getting itchy for the September regional.????
I have one of each (89W and 89S), and despite what the judging guide says, they both have some evidence of the internal "dividers" on top. There is NO cosmetic difference between the two when looking at the top other than the 89W or 89S label. Either the JG is incorrect, or they now both use the same mold.
My newest battery is the 89S and it is the new maintenance free version. I really hope it has a longer life than the previous lead acid version.
