    Re: C2:67 Clutch Boot Screw

Thanks Dale, I'll look forward to the screws, if you need anything plated, send it along. And thanks Michael for the picture. I was scratching my head how a 1/4" screw would fit in the original holes in the firewall, the holes look more like they are from or were drilled for a #8 (maybe #10) sheet metal screw.

And here's another mystery: I only found 2 screw holes in firewall. One for the top ear of the boot and one for the lower inboard one. There is no hole for the lower outboard ear of the boot which is near an electrical connector. Maybe the assembly line worker took a coffee break after drilling the first two holes, and never got back to installing the screws. Once I get this tattered original boot off I'll have to take a real close look to see if it ever had any screws in it.

What also confused me, was that the 67 AIM (sheet 7-C2) seems to call out only 1 screw and it looks like a hex head.

Having fun with these little details.

      Jerry,

I was thinking about the same coffee break, even before I got to that part in your reply. Funny, but those things happened often. (probably a lot more on the pass car lines tho) Actually, it's probably more likely that either the third hole is there and covered with goonk, or the drill bit broke and it just never was completed. That was pretty common, especially if a "new guy" happened to be there that day drilling the holes.

I never did learn tapping screw sizes, even after all these years, so I'm not 100% sure of the size but I believe it is a #8. (they just never were interesting to me so I never bothered to learn the sizes) I'm sure someone that does know the size will help us on this.

The drawings in the AIM typically do not show all of the fasteners for a particular application. Usually just one is shown to associate it with the part number in the list, and the installation and torque specs etc. If you see more than one of a group of fasteners that retain the same part, it often times indicates that there are different numbers/fasteners for various locations on the same part.

On a '67, the only other usage for that screw (9418359) was to attach the shield for the power window switch to the riveted brackets on the tunnel just behind the shifter opening.
