    General Judging Scoring ?

If an item has a value of say, Originality 10 / Condition 6...how does the item score if a deduction of 4 is made on Originality?

I know if a full deduction is made for Originality then the item gets no points (full deduction)for condition.

Also, using the above example...what qualifies as a full Condition deduction on a single functioning, intact item?

    TIA

    Re: General Judging Scoring ?

Originality is based on the four elements of originality...configuration, date, completeness, installation and finish. If for example, a component has heavy undercoating and a date code can not be read...than the component has both a finish issue and the date code can not be read. Two of the five elements are affected when scoring originality and the judge may assign a value of 20 percent to each...therefore deducting 4 of the 10 points assigned.

The original finish can not be viewed due to the undercoating and therefore it not only loses points for originality but also on condition...can't judge the "condition" of the component cause its covered up! But you did score six points plus earned condition points.

I think you'll find the answer in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual...

You first score originality and an item has to have a minimum of 10% of its originality intact in order for the judges to rate it on condition. In your example, with 10 originality points and a loss of 4, the item retains 60% of its originality aspect and therefore qualifies for condition scoring.

On the second point, I can't imagine a situation where a component would be there, rate 10% or more on originality and lose 100% of its condition points...

Thanks Tom and Jack! I have been studying the Judging Reference Manual but without asking questions I can only assume what is right based on my interpretation. And you know what happens when you ass-u-me

I was confused/unsure that if you lose 40% on originality, if you would by interpolation, automatically lose 40% on condition based on the less than 10% originality lose all condition points rule.

Don't be surprised if you more PITA questions from me in the future. Hope I can get great responses to them let you guys gave here. THX!!

          Bob:

The better prepared you are to understand the nuances of NCRS judging...the least likely you are to be surprised by a judges call on the field. It also helps you prepare the car to minimizes those surprises and therefore enjoy the NCRS judging experience. Sounds like a commerical for the Cal Ripkin Baseball experience...well not exactly. We've got one coming to town and that always seems to be the headline.
