    Build Dates

I have a friend that bought a 67 coupe that had an amature body off restortion done to it a couple of years ago. We were wondering how close can the dates be and still be acceptable? The dates are as follows.

    block casting # 3892657 Date C317 (Mar 31 1967)

Engine stamp date V0403HT (APR/03/350HP) Has nice broach marks.

    Body build date H28 (MAR 28) A.O.Smith body # A-1353

By the vin# cars approximent birthday is 8 APR 1967 (That's a Saturday?)

Most all of the other part numbers are dated FEB & Mar.

This car is very nice and seems to be very correct. What's your thoughts???
    Thanks

    Re: Build Dates

Dates all sound like they line up to me. The 8 Apr 1967 for a birthday you have to remember is only an approximation. The accuracy is first dependent on the calculator and second on how "normal" the shifts ran that month.

I have a Bowtie 67, built late March with a born on date about April 1. All the dates are very close together, most are within a few days. March was one of the highest monthly production totals for the 67 model year, thing were getting in and out quite rapidly.

With relation to the build dates, how far apart can they be? Example..I am looking at a 69 BB with a castin date J188(Oct 18 68) and a engine pad date od TO4O2IL with corresponding serial number. Can there be that much of a gap between casting date and build date on a 512 block? Thanks

            Re: Build Dates

While NCRS allows 6 months, I'd be looking very hard at that. I have seen engines that are several months before the car's date, but usually the casting and assembly dates are within a few days to a week or so at most of each other.

Basically, where would that block sit in Tonowanda for 6 months?

This looks like someone not having dates straight in their mind and thinking casting months were the same as model year months. That is, they thought A-Aug, B-Sep, C-Oct, ... G-Feb, H-Mar, J-Apr, with no I.

Even then, J 18 8 would not jive with 0402 but some people really get mixed up.
