Re: 10 or 15 years ago, I provided the then

It's a pretty obvious difference Mike. One can spot the difference from 15 feet away without even getting in the car. The colors are much different on the early high redline tach. The low redline tach had the yellow/orange colors from the start of 63 production while the high redline tach had the red/maroon colors. The 2nd design high redline tach used the same yellow/orange colors that the low redline had.

Would be great if we could get someone to photograph an original of each style, if there are actually any left. If anyone can send me pic's of both color styles, I'll post them.

This was the exact same deal as the 67 tach colors when speed alert was included. The redline colors were different than those of non speed alert cluster assy's. I mentioned this about a year ago on this board but I guess everyone thought I was dreaming. I have no logical explanation as to why these colors change with speed alert but it's real.

      Michael,
I noticed the 63 tach color differences years ago also. I called the early high rev tachs orange/red and the later ones yellow/red. I never noticed that the low-horse cars had the same tach from the start of production.

Sent my cluster off years ago to have it redone, mainly to fix the odometer and get it cleaned up. Attached a large note with it to make sure to paint the tach relines the same colors it was or if they couldn't, just leave it alone. I was happy at the time and always though they matched the colors well but would like to see an original to verify if the colors are really correct as redone. Should have just left it alone as the odometer only worked for 1009 miles before it broke again.

Have had 3 63's with the buzzer but never really put it together with the redline change. Thought it was just 2 more seperate 63 early/late deals.

        Dave,

I've noticed that all the restored 63 tach's have the same colors for the redline but, unfortunately, it's not exactly correct for either early or late colors. I suppose most have been restored now and it may be difficult to get good pic's of both early and late but I think I know someone that has a very crisp original early design. I'll see if I can talk him into getting a good pic so I can post it. I once had an NOS early tach face and the colors were incredible. Definitely closer to maroon than red on the darker of the two colors.

Re: 10 or 15 years ago, I provided the then

I am in the process of refurbishing my July 1963 340HP cluster. The cluster has been apart prior to my ownership and I found an old needle or pointer in the case during tear down. I am not sure if there has been any re-paint of the face. If anyone has a good paint for the silver bezels could you please post the brand and number?

            Thanks Ray
