I am planning to begin the restoration of the interior of my recently acquired 1978 Silver Anniversary. I have the NCRS technical manual, but would appreciate the clarification of a few items before proceeding:
- There is a coating under the rear carpet on the wheel wells that is beginning to deteriorate. It has a clear plastic backing that is coming loose from a hard substance that is cracking and pulling loose from the fiberglass. Should this be removed, repaired, or replaced? How can this best be done?
- The rear compartment cover lift handles are reported to be "steel color-keyed". Where these painted? My black interior has dark, natural finished, steel lifts, but the push-buttons have been painted black. I know the buttons should be returned to chrome, but are the lifts okay as is?
- Did the battery compartment come with a foam seal, or was this added later?
Finally, I have been trying to locate replacement t-top plastic bushings that fit into the roof latch (on the rear door pillar) to keep the locking pin from rattling. This car was built 1/11/79 and has the chrome roof latch plate which is not wired into the alarm. The usual suppliers (Zip, Ecklers, Corvette, Central, Rik's, Paragon) do not have this part and salvagers tell me that it is usually destroyed by the time they get to a car. Other than making my own, does anyone have a source for these small bushings?
Thanks in advance for the help. Greg Anderson (member #30666)
