Whats the general story behind the origin of non dated parts such as these examples and are they accepted without point deductions during judging? Did the guy with the calendar fall asleep and miss a bunch from time to time:) These items in question will be for my 69 and to take it one step further, the alternator front housing has no numbers at all...no date code, no P/N and no amp rating...it never was stamped. Any thoughts?

Re: Non dated alternators/carbs etc
Greg,
If the original alt housing happened to be damaged somehow, it may have been replaced with a new housing under warranty. If that's the case, the new replacement housing would not be stamped at all.- Top

Ya, I can see that. These open faced housings are quite weak so that would make perfect sense.
What about the undated carbs though? I've seen a lot more of these without dates than I have alternators.- Top

Re: Non dated alternators/carbs etc
Greg,
I can only think of one reason why there were many carburetor bodies replaced under warranty and that would be for the late 60's/early 70's Q-Jets with the body plug leak problem. At that time, I know most dealers actually stocked replacement bodies for these units. I don't remember if these bodies were part number or date stamped at all but I suspect not. That would possibly explain why these show up from time to time?
I think that was the only carburetor main body that was ever available for any carburetor in the 60's and 70's.- Top

Re: Non dated alternators/carbs etc
Michael and Greg-----
Float bowl assemblies (the "main body")for all Rochester carbs (4GC, Q-Jet) were once available from GM and were not stamped with any numbers, at all. I have several Q-Jet float bowl assemblies. They are like "wild cards"----they could, theoretically, become any carb number or date one wanted.
Float bowl assemblies for Carter WCFB and AFB carbs (the "main body" for Carter carbs) and the air horn assembly for Holley carbs (the "main body" for Holley carbs) were never available from GM. However, they may have been available as a SERVICE part direct from Carter or Holley. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
