    C2 66 with TI wiring harness problem

    I bought Lectric Limited ignition/lights and TI wiring harnesses. I replaced the old one with the new as I went except for the engine (it was out). The shop that put the engine in let me go over and work on the car some. I put the carb, distro, plug wires, radiator, etc.. in. Well i got it all wired up, turned the key and nothing. The lights come on but nothing to the starter. I left it for the mechanic to figure out. Now he is telling me that they sent me the wrong wiring harness or it is wired wrong. We did not fry any wires though. I bought it from zip but there is only one wiring harness for a 66 on zips online catalog, same for Long Island, only one. Before you ask, no I did not get the diagram. I got one off the web. I thought $12 for something I could get for free and use once was ridiculous. Do you guys know of any different wiring harnesses? thanks Bill#44207

    Re: C2 66 with TI wiring harness problem

    Bill,

    The 66 engine/forward lamp harness was the same part number for both standard and TI ignition. There was, however, at least one modification that I can remember, and possibly two. The 12V pink that normally connects from the starter solenoid to the coil was instead plugged into the TI harness. There were no changes to the solenoid "crank" wire so that should have made no difference. The other change for TI would have been the pink wire coming out of the IP that would have been the coil primary. Check to see if the starter will engage manually by jumping the terminals at the solenoid. (batt to inboard small terminal) If it cranks, we'll go from there.

      Wiring diagram on page D-1 thru D-7 of the assy manual, also page 12-65 and 12-66 of the '66 Chassis service manual.

        Bill,

        I have been contemplating replacing my 66 dash harness and it is posts like yours that scare the hell out of me.

        Per my Lectric limited catalog
        There is only one dash harness VMA6600
        There is only one engine harness VIG6600

        The lectric limited catalog recommends using the Factory Assembly Manual.

        Since it won't crank here is one tip from Lectric Limited catalog

        "How do I wire my starter;
        The PURPLE wire with the ring terminal goes to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. The other wire ,if applicapable, with the same size ring goes to the "R" terminal, res, on solenoid. This wire can be yellow, pink, green black/pink."

        Since parts of your 66 harness are unfused search the archives for some tips on avoiding burning up the harness.

          It's really not that scary Randy. There was only one easy mod required for the entire instrument harness. I can't remember the exact changes to the engine side harness but it's not difficult.

            Bill,
            Did you also purchase the TI auxiliary harness VTR6667AX?

            Catalog says contains parts and instructions as used by factory to convert engine harness and dash harness to accept TI Ignition
