It is a 67 conv with an AO Smith body. The body date on the trim tag is F12 equating to January 12, 1967. The body number is A-0589. The car serial number is such that the birthday book lists it as being born on 01/19/67. The engine cast date and engine assy date all align real nice with the car. I am just surprised to see an AO Smith body with a date so close to the build date of the car. Please comment - thanks in advance

John,
I'm no expert on this, but consider: the body might have been one of the last loaded on a rail car before it departed A.O. Smith in Ionia, MI; the actual rail trip to St. Louis is probably not much more than a day, maybe two at the most, and perhaps the rail car from Smith was added just before a train departed; and finally, often with rail cars (and truck auto transporters), it's "last on, first off", your body may have been one of the first sent to the line in time to be built on the 19th. Plant scheduling of course, would also have had to align with these timelines.
Just my thoughts on how it might have happened...

John,
I would consider the time span to be normal. The range is typically one to three weeks, and usually two, but there are many cars that are in the same range as the one you have. It's about 500 miles from A.O.Smith to the Mill, likely a one day trip, plus all of the loading/unloading etc.- Top
