A fellow LS-6 owner just ran a 13.12 quarter at 107 mph, this, in a stock 1971 LS-6 Corvette coupe, optioned as M40, 3:36 ratio with rear window defroster and AM-FM stereo radio as options.

This ties with what HOT ROD or CAR CRAFT magazines road test of a 1970 LS-6 Chevelle SS 454 did with TH400 and 4:10's !!!

This LS-6 Corvette has just over 13,000 original miles.

I just bought my second LS-6 Corvette while up at the Corvette and High Performance meet in Puyallup, WA. A new toy to play with, and take to the Pure Stock Drags and have some fun too!

I ran 12.65 @ 110 mph with my 71 4spd ls6 with 3.70 gears, car is stock except a double pumper carb. These cars do real well at the pure stock drags

Yes, and to think that a lot of folks are of the opinion that the GM #3863143/3904362 cam will not work well without high compression to go along with it! They forget that the 1971 LS-6 came from the factory with this cam and 9.0:1 compression. And, as you point out, they run pretty well.

you would think that big on mean LS-6 could run a lot faster than that. some of them poor little ol LS-5s could run a 13.73 @101.92 an on the drive home not sweat your sacks off. with that nice AC, blowing cold air on you.

That's got to be mighty impressive for a '71 LS-5 8.5 to 1 compression, M20 wide ratio with 3:08 ratio axle to run 13:78 quarter mile times. Would have to be going thru the lights at 6300rpm in 3rd gear I would guess.

no, it had a automatic in it. what people forget is the torque is real close with the two motors an we all know torque is what gets you off the line. the big Q-jet can suck some air another thing people forget, just cause it has a hydraculic cam does not mean it is not high performance.

I ran constantly in the 12:90- range with my Stock 67 chevelle with 9:10 with tires and great tuning.

Most magazine build up articles show that an oval port head big block gets off the line about as well as the rectangular port head big blocks. The advantage in the rectangualr port motors is on the top end.

So with different gearing, the gap on the other end can get pretty close.
