Anyone know how to identify NOS half shaft U-joints for say 67-69 corvette. Did they have a bowtie embossed on them? Thanks, Terry

Re: Half shaft U-joints.
Terry-----
I've heard this "Bow-Tie" thing before, but I don't think so. I can tell you for absolute certain that the original u-joints on my 1969 did not have a Bow-Tie on them. I have a large number of NOS u-joints [none for sale] of the original part number in GM boxes. NONE have any Bow-Tie on them. Furthermore, I have a very large number of the next successive GM part number u-joints [none for sale, either] which are virtually identical to the earlier and none of these have Bow Tie on them, either. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Half shaft U-joints.
Are there any part numbers on them or manufactures identification? Do you have the part numbers I should look for for half shaft and drive shaft? I found a set of u-joints that were purchased at chevrolet a long time ago. No zerk and they have a bowtie embosed on them?? Weird I guess. Thanks for the info, Terry- Top

Re: Half shaft U-joints.
The U-joints that I am looking at are missing the boxes??? Great! But, they have orange paint markings on the half shaft joints and bowtie embosed on them. The drive shaft joints have about a quarter size cupped out area in the middle of the body of the joint. They were purchased for a 67 corvette years ago?? Do the paint markings seem familiar to you? Thanks, TERry- Top

Yes, some GM u-joints have the orange paint marks---not the majority of them, though, based upon my sampling. Also, some of the GM driveshaft u-joints do have the "hollowed out" center. However, I'm not so sure that this style was actually used in PRODUCTION. It may have been, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Half shaft U-joints.
The DRIVE shaft u-joints have a cupped area as you describe on original 67 joints. The HALF SHAFT joints for a BB are slightly larger and do NOT have a cupped area but rather a blank raised area where the grease zerk would be if they were greaseable. In either case the original joints are not greaseable.- Top

Re: Half shaft U-joints.
Well, I have a guy that wants to sell me a full set for a 67. Says his friend worked in the drive shaft assembly somewhere and he has had a couple sets of u-joints. I know the drive shaft wounld not fit my 68 but the half-shaft one's would. But, those are not fitting the description that I have research. I don't believe they have the raised area for the zerk fitting. If you guys send me your email address, I will try to send you a picture or the offer. Thanks, Terry- Top
