    Gas Tank Build Sheets

    Removed gas tank and build sheet is still intact, but is dirty and has turned dark brown. Is there any way to clean and lighten so it is readable?
    How do you remove build sheet?

    Information for this procedure is in the archives. Remember one tool mentioned was a new single edge razor blade. The build sheet was attached with glue and the procedure is to separate the glue from the tank, not the glue from the build sheet.

      I used several single edge razor blades, lightly moistened with WD-40. Then I dug deep into the tank finish, under the red contact cement, to get the sticker off. It took about a half hour.

      As you can see, all the cement is intact and there are speckles of the zinc coating from the tank. PT

        Argggh! That was a lot of glue. My sheet was held down by a single blob of glue about an 2 inches in diameter.

          Howell;

          That's usually how I find them glued as well. Have taken them off 3 1970's, 3 1971's & 2 1972's. If I hadn't the next owners probably wouldn't ever have had any documentation for the cars. That paper is so fragile, I just can't seem to stress the importance of it enough, for those who still have a chance at some docs for their cars, cause when its gone it's gone forever!!
