I know it was answered before, but it didn't come up in a search. Does a standard power brake car (not a J56) take a DC or PG master cylinder ?

Re: 1967 Power brake master cylinders
Ron-----
All 1967 Corvettes except J-56 use the GM casting #5455509 master cylinder with a "DC" code. This includes standard brakes and J-50 power brakes.
For 1967, the "PG" coded '346' master cylinder was used for J-56 ONLY.
The above information applies to 1967 ONLY. For later years, things are somewhat different. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe:
Isn't there two similar casting numbers for "PG" 5480346 for 67/68' and 5460346 which were plentiful for the 68-82'?- Top

There is no 5480346; that's a mis-read of the 5460346 casting number. The 5460346 was used from 1967 through, at least, 1976. It is a 1-1/8" bore master cylinder coded "PG". It was used for 1967 with J-56 and most 68-76+ with J-50 or J-56.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Addendum
By the way, while the 5460346 used in Corvettes was coded "PG", the same casting was also used for other applications and built up into differently configured finished master cylinders. These have different stamped codes. The casting number only identifies the basic casting; the stamped code identifies the finished master cylinder assembly. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe:
The TIM/JM states:
The casting numbers are: 5480346 not 5460346.
Which is correct.....- Top

And if I recall....the 67' had no date codes either casted in the body or stamped in the machined area.- Top

Re: Addendum
Bill----
There are no meaningful CASTING date codes found on any of these master cylinders. I believe that most, or all, original 1967 master cylinders lacked the STAMPED assembly code. Some later master cylinders have it and some don't.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Addendum
Joe:
The Master cylinder on my car has no stamped assembly code, the casting numbers you could toss a coin if it is 548, or 546, but I went to extreme lengths to have a correct one because of scrutiny by enthusiasts and NCRS experts over the casting numbers.

Re: Addendum

You don't have to worry about having a correct one if the last 3 digits are '346'. There was no master cylinder casting ever made of 5480346 so any one with a '346' last 3 digits will be the correct one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
