    low vacuum

I have to wonder why it is dying in the first place. I once had a problem just like yours that was caused by a clogged gas filter.

While it's running, if I try to "accelerate" there is no increase in rpm and I do see the squirters dumoing fuel in when I do this; all I here when I open the throttle is air being sucked in.

        Re: low vacuum

Finally got it running decently tonight; this is what I found, so far:
I found that the centrifugal advance was not operating as ther was no lubrication between the adv plate and the main shaft; the main shaft had .040" clearance to the bottom gear; supposed to be .007"; I had to shim that. I also found that the transfer slots on the carb were overexposed, so I backed the throttle setting out to 1/2 turn past fully closed plates(edelbrock carb); I also put an echlin 1810 advance can on it; the car ran for a while with 10-14" hg; then stalled; I couldn't restart, had voltage to coil but noticed new coil was extremely hot; could this be the cause? I was so excited hearing it running decently I didn't check timing or do anything else.

Final results: replaced coil with generic coil from Autozone; to get timing marks to line-up, had to rotate distributor dimple 180* away from rotor tip(I have an aftermarket crane cam); right now starts well. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
