    L79 intake question

Hey all you experts out there.

I was just getting ready to send out my intake and valve covers to Jerry Mcneish when I noticed The letter "U" stamped into the right front boss of the intake. Is that something for him to fill in, or is it supposed to be there?

I can email a picture if needed .I still can't fiqure out how to post one here,
    but I have them!

Lastly, what little tricks can I use to make sure I get the same ones back?
I know I can etch them, but where and how deep as to cause no damage and yet not be told they rubbed off in the tumbling process?

Can you tell this is my first restoration?
    Jim

"U" is an inspection stamp, very commonly seen.

      Bill,

I thought it might have been a "shop stamp" for identification purposes, and not an original marking . Now I will leave it on !

      Thanks,
      Jim,

As for your "how can I mark them to make sure I get the same ones back" I can appreciate where you are coming from, we do seem to want "our" parts back, don't we?

Not that I didn't trust Jerry's gang, but when I sent my valve covers to him I used a liitle awl to scribe my last name in a tiny spot on the underside (the Lester name and part number are also on the underside) for what reason I don't know, since I did not alert Jerry to my "tagging" - but I can confirm that the valve covers I got back were the same ones I sent, bearing my last name etched by me. So, if nothing else, I tested his process and he did return to me the same valve covers I sent to him. Beautiful, by the way.

Jerry will stamp or scribe your parts with your initials (in a location that can't be seen as-installed) when he receives them so they are readily identifiable as your parts; he has done this for many years.
