    '62 oil line

The JG says for the oil pressure line to have a loop prior to attaching to the block but the AIM shows it with three 90 degree bends. Am I misinterpeting "loop"? Thanks Terry

Terry... 3 - 90 degree bends sounds fishy...

... my experience indicates a single 360 degree loop gets the job done. Others may have a different opinion, of course... Best, Dennis

Check the diagram on section 12 sheet 6.00. Thanks Terry

        Can't book learn everything

I have often said: The fellow who drew the AIM picture never actually looked at that assembly in a real Corvette.

I have it ... that a 1 1/2 inch loop (coil) is formed in the line before entering the firewall.

              Hi Terry

The proper way to install any pressure gauge line is to install a "pig tail" as close to the gauge as possible. This is done to relieve the shock of the sudden pressure of the liquid from the engine (boiler, pump, turbine Etc.) from the force of pressure against the gauge mechanism. Ther are other types on the market known as snubbers however these would not be feasible for cars. Jim

It Is My Belief, Based On Observation...

...That the 360 degree pigtail was formed about 8" +/- above leaving the rear engine oil pressure port on the engine side of the "firewall"... I believe it's main function was to absorb normal engine vibration and movement, minimizing the chance of line frature from constant movement during operation. Of course, I could be wrong - maybe the line was accidentally manufactured too long, and the loop was just to get rid of that excess length...
