    '68 steering wheel

I need a correct steering wheel for my '68. Is there any difference between the '67 and '68 wheel or are they the same part? Thanks.

Hi John, The 1968 and 1967 Corvette wheels are the same and you can use either one in your car. I have a 1967 and a 1967 Corvette that are original and unrestored and they have identical wheels. Good luck, Rick

      John,

The 67 and 68 wheels are similar but if you look closely at a each, you will see that the 67 has a texture in the plastic and the 68 does not. The reason most 67's and 68's look the same today is because most of the grain has worn off the 67 wheel. If you look near the spokes, and especially behind the spokes, you will probably see much of the original grain. If you've ever seen an NOS 67 wheel, you would immediately see the difference.

The grain is the only difference that I'm aware of.

I'm pretty sure you might have this one wrong mike because the part number in my parts book is the same for 67 and 68. Its 9748390 for both of them

GM will list a part as being for 19XX to 19XX when it was only used in the last year. As long as it fits and serves the purpose they do not care what it looks like

So that means the 68 might have been the replacement for the 67 but the parts book doesnt tell you this? was there a different number for the 67 one? they still look the same to me. ok thanks

              Tom,

Dick is exactly right. The original 67 (only) steering wheel, part number 9746195, was replaced in service with the 9748390 in June of 1971. All parts books printed after that time will show the 9748390 part as the service replacement for both 67 and 68.

The 67 wheel definitely had a visible grain that the 68 did not have.
