I have seen lots of engines with one to two day periods between casting date and assembly date. I have even seen a 57 passenger car 283 with a casting date and an assembly date on the same day. I guess that is possible; assume the engine was cast in the early morning hours (3rd shift) and then assembled that same evening.
Thanks, I'm looking at finishing a restore of a 68 vette.
The engine assembly date should have been T0416IRH according to the owners plate. The car which has only two previous owners and bought in my home town of Oklahoma. Acording to the original owner, he said the engine was replaced by chevy 6 months after it was bought new and chevy replaced it with a #3904351 casting date K-16-7 - blank code pad. This motor now needs work after a bearing failure, and in the process of looking for parts I have found a motor #3935439 with a casting date of D-15-8.
Just wanted to be sure of what I'm doing before continuing on.
