    C2 1966 427/425hp Heads

The heads on my 66 427/425 are 67 heads. I am considering purchasing a pair of heads, one of which is dated c-15-6. The other head is dated h-10-5. My car was built in Nov of 65. Does anything think that having heads closer to the build date of my car would make it more valuable..even though one of the heads was cast AFTER the build date of my car? Does anyone know where I might
    find correct heads?

    will anyone ever know?

Sure, the best situation is to have the heads cast prior to the engine assembly date, but the date codes are on the underside of the water passage inside the engine. NOBODY CAN SEE THEM! The casting numbers may be seen through the oil fill hole on some engines.

For rectangular port heads (which can be hard to come by), I personally wouldn't sweat it and if the price were good, would buy the correct casting heads with the incorrect dates. On the other hand, oval port heads are common and I would probably look a little longer.

Mark, Actually the heads should be retangular port heads..They are VERY hard to find and VERY expensive...The ones I am looking at are already up to $1500 on Ebay..Any alternative suggestions as to where else I might check would be appreciated.

NO suggestions where to get a reasonably priced set of rectangular port heads. If it's your own car for showing, you may want to see if the correct year oval port heads are externally identical as the intake should still bolt up and seal. There will be a port mismatch, but if it's mostly a show car and occasionally driven gently, you may not notice any difference. Oval port heads go for about $100 a set for cores.

Thomas, I have a set of #858 heads on my 67 L-71. One is dated B-25-6, the other D-2-6. One of the obvious differences between the #858 and the #391 head is the 1/4-20 threaded boss for the spark plug wire barrel. I would like to have a set of 67 heads. Please email me. hblee67@yahoo.com

You cant tell the dates once the head is on and the engine together. If you are going to buy heads get the right dates. Especially for that kind of Money. There are alot out there. I found a stray head dated right in between my two originals at Carisle. If the heads on your car are working. You may want to just get the dated ones and put them away.Big Blocks sometimes get hot. That is why I got a spare.
