Does any one know how to tell the difference between an original C1 jack (53-61)and a repro? Besides the SJ4653 part number cast into the base, what specific/foolproof questions can I ask an eBay seller to ensure that I'm buying the "real McCoy"? Thanks

Re: C1 Jack Original vs. Repro
The repro that has the correct base is difficult to distinguish from the original. I have both and the only significant difference between the two appears to be the end of the roll pins that hold the assembly together. On the original, the pins are peened over while on the repro, they are untouched. It occurred to me that someone could peen these over and make the repro indistinguishable from an original. The repro was finished in gloss black paint, but this could easily be changed. The number on the base of my repro is somewhat fainter but I would not use this criteria to dismiss an original as a repro.- Top

Re: C1 Jack Original vs. Repro
Look at the top side of the base (the surface where the number is cast). There are ribs cast lengthwise and across this surface. The surface of the two lengthwise ribs in the area between the two ribs across the base will be slightly lower on an original part. The reproductions I have seen have the casting heights of all these ribs the same. This is what I normally look for to distinguish a reproduction from an original.- Top
