William O's thread last Friday 7:38 pm, asked about C48 heater block-off caps; from rad supply tenk (see eBay auction 4615976696). Well the winner paid $444 for repro tee and spring clamp with "rare" L88 block-off cap.
Suddenly thought I was rich, as I bought one of these from GM back in the early '80's -- was the closest I was going to get to either a C48 or L88 car. Click on 2nd pic link below the photo for a close-up of head details. Mine has dimensions that match the info on Noland's Vol 2 GM drawing, page 213. He says the part # changed in '64 to 1191141 (which is what shows in my '65 AIM). But Vol 2's picture of a '67 C48 (heater delete) car on pg.404, the cap does not look at all like the one I have.
Checked GM Parts Direct site and there it is under the # shown in the eBay auction; 15544596, list price $2.01. GM mid-60's era catalogs list under 1191141 Gr 8.866 for all sorts of trucks but no Corvettes. Then in my '69 P&A30 it shows up under Gr 1.070, '64-69 Corvette (but with no other useage, although it still shows @ Gr 8.866 without reference to Corvette).
So, you L88 experts out there, what do you look for ?
I'm almost ashamed to state that the eBay seller was a fellow Canadian; or, maybe I should be congratulating him !
