How do the bolts come out of the shifter arms on

the trans? I tried to just take the bolt out of the middle, but the arm moves when I try to turn the bolt. It concerns me that I might get the arms out of adjustment or have something fall off inside of the trans. I was wanting to replace the shaft seals for the arms because they leak a little.

Bob, I assume you are trying to remove the shifter arms? The arm will turn but only until the gear engages, it's better to hold the arm with another wrench and remove the nut. Nothing will fall off in the trans. If you want to repair the leak you will have to remove the side plate also. Before you do that I suggest you drain the fuild. The exterior nut is attached to the end of the shifter yolk. You won't change the adjustment by removing the plate or the nut.
