    C1 Stamp Pad Experts

Is this a legit CU stamping? It looks like the block was peened so any broach or new machining marks are gone.

    Thanks,

    Ted

I've read at least a few times in the last year or so, of using the shot blasting process to recondition blocks. I had never heard of this being used for engine blocks until recently. I would question the need why this is necessary. I wonder if it means that blocks so badly neglected and damaged by time, weather, and neglect are now being used and this method at least gets the block back to a rough castng condition where it can be remachined, etc. Whatever the reason, the original broach marks are gone.

I am not sure if it is year specific, but I believe the Flint assembly stamp should be on the right-hand side of the pad. I know it is on my 1961. The left side was for the serial number derivative. Mike

Not a stamp pad expert, but my early 1960 (1st week of Dec. '59) had the VIN number on the left and then the Engine code to the right.

              Ted, Should Add...

...I'm pretty comfortable looking at this stamping, in spite of missing broach marks. Best, Dennis

My original 58' engine stamp is on the outboard or passenger side just like Dennis said.
