    C3/C4 Corvette road tar removal

What is your product preference for removing road tar from the painted body?

    Hi Jim,
There is a product you can get at hardware stores called "GOOF OFF" or you can go to a pharmacy and get some medical serviettes called "UNIVERSAL ADHESIVE REMOVER WIPES" which is in a 50 pc box by the company name "SMITH + NEPHEW".
The wipes are like the little restaurant towelette.

After you get the road tar off, and the area looks clean then wash it down with soap & water to get the residue off.

    Hope this helps. Ken.

            Paint thinner works fine...

...won't hurt any automotive finish including lacquer.

I use a product found in grocery stores in the cleaner section called Dissolve It.
It works very well and does not hurt the laquer on my 57.

Yes, I'm Sure Duke Wasn't Refering to.......

...lacquer thinner. That would certainly remove the tar, and a lot of other things that you probably didn't want to remove.

you can get a gallon of mineral spirts for a price

of a 16 oz can of the "fancy" stuff. If you read the label, I think it's the same stuff too.

Paint thinner is also referred to as mineral spirits. It's used to thin alkyl enamel paints and is a good, cheap general purpose petroleum solvent - works as good if not better than any "bug and tar" remover I have bought.

                            PS

If any crude appears to be road line paint, its latex based. Use denatured alcohol to remove it.

Yep another use for this stuff that doesn't work too well on rusted metal parts.
