    1959 FI Dist,Gen,VR,Tach Cbl & Speed Cbl

I have a friend, Mr. Doubting Thomas, who is restoring a 1059 Fuel Injected Corvette. He dosen't beleive a word I say and is looking for a consensus opinion as to which Distributor, Generator, Voltage Regulator, Tach Cable and Speedometer Cable to use. His car was built in February of 1959 and has a pair of dice attached to the rear view mirror. (fuzzy dice) He/we/I would appreciate the input of the Board. Thanks in advance.

    Dale.

Well, with respect to the generator and voltage regulator this is somewhat of a tough one since, of course, with respect to these components there were two designs used for 1959 and this car was built just about in the middle of 1959 production. The changeover point is "fine nuance" of C-1 history and I don't touch "fine nuances" of C-1 history. So, I'll leave opinions on that point to those much more familiar than I with C-1s. I realize that the change-over may be the 'thrust" of this question, but I can't help with that. But, I'll offer this information which I've cross-checked with several reference sources, including non-AIM GM-sourced info:

    DISTRIBUTOR:

    with 250 hp------------------------- GM #1110915

    with 290 hp------------------------- GM #1110914

    GENERATOR:

1st design, 30 amp, solid mounts---- GM #1102059

2nd design, 35 amp, dual ball brg--- GM #1102173

    VOLTAGE REGULATOR:

with 30 amp generator--------------- GM #1119001

with 35 amp generator--------------- GM #1119002

    SPEEDOMETER CABLE:

    68-5/8" cable and 67-1/2" casing---- GM #1567793

    TACHOMETER CABLE:

with 250 hp (60" cable assembly)---- GM #1587500

    with 290 hp (33-5/8"cable assembly)- GM #1585653

Thank you very much Joe and you're quite correct in that our main problem is the fact that we can't decide which way to go because of the change-over. Do you recall if the cables were metal sheathed or vinyl?
