Non Corvette -vs- NCRS Corvette OCD issue.

Ok here is a question I pose to all members.. Has NCRS rubbed off on how you treat your non Corvettes. It has for me. I can't take anything off anyother car without saving it! In AZ we do not have front license plates so I take the front mounts off and save them... Just in case someday somone will judge my 2000 Mitsubishi Montero!! how crazy is that. I am also 'restoring' our 83 Chevy Van we are original owners of... The problem is no one makes restoration parts for it. Rather then have the local interior shop cut a set of carpets for it I have spent hours looking for an NOS set! Why? I don't know maybe someday MVRS (National Van Restorers Society) will judge it. Am I the only one who has let NCRS spill over into other parts of their lives??? Eric

Eric. This is completly normal. I am busy sprucing up my 94 K-5 Blazer in anticipation of towing a trailer to Bloomington. I couldn't possibly show uo with non working sun visor vanity lights or worn out gas shocks that hold the back window open. Since it has 260k miles on it, it is also getting a new GM crate motor and GM transmission. I could not satnd the thought of opening the hood and not seeing a DELCO battery there (no matter how poor they are). I wonder if Restoration Battery is making a correct OPTIMA type battery for it yet! My TOYOTA gets factory parts only-no aftermarket stuff for me. I blame and thank NCRS for this condition.

You're Crazy If You Think I Saved...

...the original windshield wiper blades off my '92 454 SS... or every stinking piece of paperwork or anything else that needed replacement.

Not even the window sticker? I don't save the parts I replace but I do use factory parts.

Bought from the org. owner my 1976 F-250 FORD (oh no) Pick-up. Org 390 Ranger XLT 4X4. Got it 8 years ago to use on our Ranch. Now restoring it. I've got all paper, came from Westminister, Colo. dealership who's still in biz. Now trucks are comming into their own. Ya can't dismiss anything anymore, plus always loved the look of 72-77 Ford PU's.

                Eric,

I'd have to yes, I have saved every piece of paper work and all original parts that I have had to replaced or upgraded with drag racing "Go-Faster" parts on my 1987 Buick Grand National. I've even gone so far as to remove the factory installed, matching numbers engine and transmission and built replacements using a new GM dealer replacement short block and complete transmission. Things I've kept like the original Good Year tires, original cast iron rear brake drums changed out with GM aluminum replacements, Delco shock absorbers, the p/n tags off of the front/rear springs and sway bars, fuel filter, turbo charger, intercooler & hoses, fuel injectors, fuel pump, coil wires and coil pack, part of the original "Y" exhaust pipe that was perfect when removed at 30k miles, any all emissions parts replace and the list goes on. I've even gone the Joe Lucia route and back on 1991 began buying at least one of every GM NOS part that I thought would be good to have later on. I had a friend and fellow GN owner that was a GM Parts Manager at the local dealer that went through a list of the GN part numbers that he had compiled on a quarterly basis to see what was being discontinued by GM. He would then send me the list and call me to see how many of each that I wanted. I don't know how many parts for the car I actually have, but it's beginning to take over the storage area in my basement, my wife thinks I'm crazy, but I think that these cars will continue to become more collectable as time passes considering the low number of the 1986 (5,1xx) and 1987 (20,xxx) models that were produced.

                Regards,

I Failed To Explain Myself Very Well... Yes,

I have saved everything off that truck except maybe the original bald tires and I feel somewhat guilty about that. It's part of the "NCRS sickness thing" ...

Is it really NCRS that causes this, or did we choose NCRS because we are already like this in the first place.

Probably true.. I am probably the only one who ever put a correct dated 2 barrel carb and manifold back on a 72 Chevelle SS because that is what it had when built (Rare 1 of less then 500) I sold the car and a month later I saw it painted yellow (originally metalic brown) and it had a 454 in it. I asked the guy what he did with the 2bbl and he said he threw it away!!!!!!!! argh..... Eric

Yep.....I've gotten in the habit of doing the same thing with all my non-Corvettes: 1993 Mustang Cobra, 1967 911S Sunroof Coupe, 2003 Honda S2000. The only one I don't do it on is the wife's Explorer.
