    C2 66 Kick Panels

Would someone with a 66 AIM (Assy Manual) e-mail me the page that shows the installation of the carpeted kick panels. I am looking to see if they call out Item #8 AND Item #9 as 2 different screws that hold the panel in place.

I have a 67 and the AIM only calls out item #8. Item #9 was deleted under the "notes" section. I was docked points because I installed my panels with all one type of screw (item #8) as the AIM showed. Judges said there should be 2 types. I found a survivor that has only 1 type of screw in all locations. I'm trying to determine when the change (if it happened) took place.

I did discover for the judges, that the vinyl piece below the rear window was present in 66 and earlier coupes, but was deleted in 67 and the AIM showed that deletion also. I did recover the points on that item.

    Thanks for any help

    Steve,

The '66 assembly manual shows (4)#8(4751359) and (2)#9(9417987). I can fax you the page if you still need it.

Here is a survivor photo of the screws in question. 67 AIM says they are all the same.

        Steve,

The forward screw, that is where the kick panel is notched out for the vent, appears to have never been installed on my '66. There is no hole drilled for it. I think the use of all 6 screws was discussed here not too long ago.

          Steve -

That change (from two different screws to one for the kickpad, deleting the 9417987 usage) was dated in August '66, a couple of weeks prior to '67 start of production, and there were no new part numbers involved - it was just a simple usage change; the 9417987 screw (used for two of the six attachments per side in '66, then cancelled for that usage for '67) was also used to attach the coupe halo panel, so there was no issue of having to exhaust old stock before using six identical screws on each side. IMO, that documents pretty clearly that a '67 kickpad with six identical screws is legitimate.

            Hi Steve
The three screws on the windlace are correct with the integrel washers.
The two in the middle (top and bottom) should be the counter-sunk trim screws with the accomanying conical washer that has the tangs that crimp onto the backside of the carpet. Similar principle to the "Thumbhole" bezel in your jackboard cover. The front screw should be the same according to the AIM's. However, on many original '66 and '67 cars. That forward screw is that "Windlace" type.

Oh, what percentage of "original" does a Corvette have to be in order to be awarded "Survivor"?

Just a point of clarification of the "Kick Pad" and "Halo" screws being the same. As John said, they are, but, the two washers are not the same, each is unique to the specific application.
